Abdominal Workouts

Abdominal Workouts – What must be Combined to get Six Pack Abs

Maintaining a six pack, for many people, is their main goal when exercising and dieting. Because it is such an isolated part of the body, many people focus too narrowly on what can be done to get and maintain six pack abs. Too many people rely solely on isolated moves list sit-ups and crunches in their attempt to shape their abs. They forget that these moves alone will only tone those muscles, but it will not burn away that fat that covers those muscles. It is very possible to have a very strong core from ab exercises while still being obese!

You must maintain a healthy diet and incorporate both cardio and strength exercises in order to achieve a healthy body and, subsequently, six pack abs. Doing any of these three things alone will not result in six pack abs.

People who only diet, and do no strength or cardio exercises, will not have six pack abs. Dieting will help you lose first water weight, then fat, and eventually muscle. Going this route is extremely difficult because it requires drastic calorie reduction that must be maintained for a lifetime. Few people have the willpower to do this and even fewer health professionals would recommend this route. The risk of not getting all of the nutrients that you need would be greatly increased on a severely reduced calorie which could lead to serious long-term health issues. Not only that, but you could seriously damage your metabolism making it even harder to maintain a healthy weight. As you can see, using diet alone to lose weight and maintain your figure can be dangerous and will not reveal a toned body since you would have not spent any of your energy toning your body.

Cardio alone is a better way to lose fat, but doing only this is still not ideal. Cardio exercise burns the most calories but does little to tone your muscles. Also, if you focus intensively and get no strength training, you greatly increase you chance for injury since you body will be overworking under developed muscles. Even athletes like marathon runners, who might think only run, do a lot of strength training so that their muscles can endure long runs.

Strength training will tone your muscles, but is the least effective way to burn off the fat that covers those muscles. You will want to do cardio exercise combined with diet to burn off the fat and strength exercises to shape up your body and give you those six pack abs you have always wanted to show off.
