Diet Tips for Abs

A Few Changes for Big Results

Nutrition is one of the most confusing topics for people who are trying to lose weight and get six pack abs. There are literally thousands of nutrition specialists out there who each have different ideas on what and what not to consume in order to gain shapely abs. Where you may find a dozen who agree on one thing, you can easily find another dozen who will disagree.

So what is the best diet for fat loss with the goal of revealing six pack abs?

One of the misunderstandings out there is that you must take on some strict and crazy diet. People believe that there is some special combination of foods that, when consumed in the proper order and in proper quantities, will make your fat melt away. There are a number of extreme diets where your consumption is limited to very few foods and even fewer calories, but these diets are impossible to maintain and mostly just cause you to lose water weight, along with your motivation to stick to a healthy diet!

The ideal diet is much simpler, so simple in fact it followed by the original human lifestyle, that of the hunter and gatherer. These people do not worry about “low carb” or “low fat”, they eat only what is available to them which is unprocessed foods high in protein, nutrients and fiber.

Here are three key steps you will want to take to improve your diet to get you closer to six pack abs.

Get enough lean quality protein
Protein has the highest thermic effect of any food. 30% of the calories consumed in protein are burned off the in the digestion and utilization process. (Vegetables are second with a 15% thermic rate.) Protein also makes you feel fuller for longer than carbs and helps you build muscle. This muscle building helps you maintain a healthy metabolism.

Make those Carbs Whole Grains
While you will want to reduce the number of carbohydrates you eat, you will still eat them. Make sure they are high in fiber. Just like protein, fiber fills you up and makes you feel fuller longer. It also helps regulate the digestion process which makes you feel healthier.

Reduce your intake of Processed Foods
Refined grains like white flour and refined sugars like cane sugar and corn syrup are the leading causes of body fat. These foods are high in calories and do not fill you, causing you to crave more of them. These foods also cause dips in energy and provide few nutrients. Consumption of these foods play a big part in the increased cases of heart disease, obesity, diabetes, cancer, and depression.
