Ridding your Belly of Fat

How to Avoid the Many Pitfalls that Prevent Stomach Fat Loss.

Many people spend a lot of time researching for “quick” and “easy” ways to lose stomach fat and to get ripped abs. These people are wasting their time, changing your body’s shape is very doable but it is not something that can be accomplished with 3 minutes of exercise a day or by popping a pill. The best method is to adapt a healthy lifestyle of eating right and getting exercise.

Finding a workout plan or diet they gets you to your ideal weight is great, but keep in mind you will have to do work to maintain a healthy body, you cannot go back to no workouts and eating fast food and expect to keep six pack abs. The problem with many of the workouts and diets that the “Diet” industry markets is that they do not take into consideration long term goals. And let’s be honest, an ad about losing weight in 3 months is much more interested than an ad about long term weight maintenance.

But because of all of this focus on one simple ab move to remove belly fat, people incorrectly think that doing lots of sit-ups and crunches will lead to “spot” fat reduction around the belly. You cannot target which parts of your body lose fat, when the body is at the point where it needs to burn fat for energy, it pretty much evenly burns off fat, the body isn’t biased when it comes to what fat to burn. The first energy that your body burns is caloric energy that you have recently fed your body. If you are being smart about your weight loss goals will have done the math to know how many calories you can consume in a day and how many you need to burn off.

Once your body has burned off the easily available energy, it will move on to the fat since that is what it is there for. Your fat is stored energy, think of the bear who stores up lots of fat in the fall and then hibernates throughout the winter, it maintains bodily functions by living off of this fat. If you do an extreme crash diet coupled with intense exercise, your body will start to burn its own organs in order to stay alive, this is clearly something you want to avoid.

As explained above, you will want to calculate how many calories your workout burns and how many calories are in your daily diet. Even if you are working out very intensely, you will not lose weight if you are consuming more calories than you burn. This confuses some people because they start to workout and because their bodies are more active, they start to eat more but if they were eating high-calorie foods in the beginning and are now eating more, they will not lose stomach fat. This is why it is always a good idea to know how many calories are in the food you eat, don’t let a food’s packaging claims like “low fat” or “all natural” fool you.

Some other tips to lose stomach fat are listed below:

  • Avoid extreme diets that have you cut out entire categories of otherwise wholesome foods. Examples are no fat or no carb diets. Fat and carbs are not bad for you, but this belief exists because the modern diet often consists of more of these nutrients than you need in a day, and they tend to be the bad forms of these nutrients to boot.
  • Also avoid strict detox diets or special needs diets like a gluten-free, dairy-free or fructose free diets. Diets that cut out something like fructose or gluten are designed for people who’s body’s reject these foods. If you feel that you are having digestive issues by all means explore what foods could be causing the issue, but don’t think that because a gluten-free diet made your gluten intolerant friend feel better, that it will automatically do the same for you.
  • Don’t just focus on cutting out bad foods, you will want to put just as much energy into finding high-quality wholesome foods to build your diet on.
  • As much as possible, avoid processed and artificial food. This includes artificial sugars, hydrogenated fats, preservatives and colorings, and “white” grains like white flour and rice.

A good idea if you seriously want to lose stomach fat and get into shape is to invest in a proven plan that lays out everything you need to do. A great example is Mike Geary’s e-book “The Truth about Six-Pack Abs” – his program is considered the highest rated ab program available on the web. A lot of work and research went into this e-book and the education it provides will greatly increase your odds of succeeding in your weight lose goals.
